What Handicapping Is
The term Handicapping can be used in two contexts with different meanings. The first context of handicapping involves prediction of outcome of a particular race by closely analyzing all the possible factors associated with the race, before the race actually begins. This can be used for determining the odds in favour of particular horse. For instance, if a horse is very good during windy weather, it has more odds of winning a race held under windy weather. Consequently, the rest of the horses may have a lower chance of winning, if theyre not equally comfortable with windy or rainy conditions.
The second context of handicapping relates to the handicap races. Sometimes, certain horses are given handicaps to increase the excitement of betting or to even out the competition amongst all the competing horses. In certain forms of handicapping, horses are also made to compete with extra weights attached to increase the fun, and under such handicaps, the outcome of the race may vary drastically. Therefore, betting under handicaps can be bit different from betting under usual racing conditions.
You must be aware of the performance of all the competing horse under the given handicap, before you place a bet, because the usual winner may not be able to do equally good to win the race with handicapping.
